Song Lyrics
Cornerstone
[Verse] My hope is built on nothing less, Than Jesus' blood and righteousness. I dare not trust the sweetest frame, But wholly trust in Jesus' Name.
[Chorus] Christ alone cornerstone. Weak made strong in the Saviour's love. Through the storm He is Lord. Lord of all.
[Verse] When darkness seems to hide His face. I rest on His unchanging grace. In every high and stormy gale. My anchor holds within the veil. My anchor holds within the veil.
[Verse] When He shall come with trumpet sound, Oh may I then in Him be found. Dressed in His righteousness alone, Faultless stand before the throne.
Love of God
[Verse] It’s so good I almost can’t believe it. Far beyond what hearts could ever dream. The God who set the galaxies in motion, Would descend to give His life for me. For what could make perfection bleed for sinners? What leads a King to pay so great a cost? All my life my heart will sing the answer. Only the love of God.
[Chorus] Singing oh how great is the love of God. He paid our debt on that rugged cross. For all our days we will sing our Saviour's praise. How great is the love of God.
[Verse] It’s so kind it leads us to repentance. It’s so bright the darkness has to flee. Hallelujah it cleared my guilty sentence. For I was bound but now I stand redeemed. For what could break the chains of any prison? What force could rob the power from the grave? What would trade my rags for heaven's riches? Only the love of God.
[Verse] Though I try my mind can’t comprehend it. It’s so high too marvellous for words. I could sing a million songs about it, And barely scratch the surface of Your worth. This all my life the banner I’ll be waving. My anthem cry no matter what may come. And when I rise to walk the streets of heaven, I’ll still be singing this song. For everything that You’ve done. How great the love of God.
How To Pray: Listen
Question: How can we learn to better recognize and respond to Jesus’ voice?
1. Slow Down
In contemporary society our Adversary majors in three things: noise, hurry, and crowds. If he can keep us engaged in "muchness" and "manyness," he will rest satisfied. Psychiatrist Carl Jung once remarked, "Hurry is not of the Devil; it is the Devil.” Richard J. Foster, 1978 - Celebration of Discipline
Matthew 14:23 After sending [the crowd] home, [Jesus] went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone.
2. Look Up
3. Listen
We can listen to the voice of Jesus through the Bible, dreams & visions, counsel & common sense, personal reflection and through obedience. Pete Greig - How to Pray, chapter 9
Matthew 11:28-30 (NLT) Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30 (Message) “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
Discussion
1. Take a few minutes to reflect on Matthew 11:28-30
What word or phrase stands out to me?
Why does it stand out?
What might God be saying to me through this?
Closing Prayer
Loving Father, help me to live this day to the full, being true to you in every way.
Help me to give myself to others, being kind and generous to everyone I meet.
Help me to love those who don’t know you, proclaiming Christ in all I do and say.
Amen.
